FEATURED EVENTS
A Swing Renaissance Series
February 22nd
Hot House West Presents: A Rent Party
Rent parties were social gatherings in 1920's Harlem where musicians and dancers would gather to raise money to help cover tenants’ rent. These were formative moments in time where musicians collaborated and pushed the boundaries of their music further. We are partnering with Utah NeighborWorks to do this in our very own Salt Lake! 10% of all ticket sales will be donated to support their mission to:
"build on the strengths of neighborhoods, creating opportunities through housing, resident leadership, and youth and economic development."
Doors open at 5:30pm
Food trucks, art gallery, and bar starting at 5:30pm
Stride piano Performance at 5:45pm - Feat. Derek Coombs!
Performance by The Hot House West Swing Orchestra from 7:00pm - 7:50pm
Beginner-friendly Swing Dance Lesson from 8:00pm - 8:30pm

Tonight! 2/21
Melissa Chilinski's 'River Green Sessions'
Album Release - Fisher Brewing Co.
7:30-10pm
Come catch the album release of this great new record from Melissa Chilinski! This is the first release under our new record label, Westmoon Records. We'll be releasing more info about this new label over the coming months, but in the meantime, check out this release! From Melissa:
"I’d encourage you to listen to the entire album straight through. ‘River Green’ bookends the album and there is a flow with the tunes, with bird and cricket sounds speckled throughout. The album is half instrumental, with singing on ‘River Green’, ‘Like a Desert Flower’, ‘Solitude’, and ‘River Green Reprise’. Songs were written in the span of a month last year, with all the instrumentals written on my solo flat water river trip on the Green River in Utah. ‘Like a Desert Flower’ music was written by @david.baker.officialThe album was recorded outside @sagehenjewelry house up tollgate canyon in the summer with @david.baker.official @grayson_wickel @benfunkinweiss . Many of the tunes were workshopped day of and still have a rawness that I find very endearing. We spent all day recording, eating snacks, chasing chickens, hearing the beautiful birds, and watching the aspen trees sway.Hope it gives a little taste of summer and calmness."
"Westmoon Records is at program under Hot House West that supports our network of artists in releasing creative projects into the world. Our team guides artists through both the creation and release strategy of their record, from concept to publishing."

COMMUNITY NEWS
WEEKLY MUSICIAN SPOTLIGHT
Andrew Glanville
You have probably seen Andrew holding down the baritone sax chair with the Hot House West Swing Orchestra! What you may not know is that Andrew has been a mover and shaker behind the scenes in the Salt Lake music community for sometime. In addition to being an excellent woodwind player, Andrew is a great organizer. Having worked for both JazzSLC and Excellence in the Community, two essential local nonprofits, Andrew has contributed in many ways to the excellent music scene we have today.
Andrew has been a friend of the group for a long time, originally playing clarinet in the very first incarnation of Hot House West. After spending several years traveling the world on a shoestring budget, he came back to Utah and rolled up his sleeves to build his skills as an organizer and professional musician. We're glad he is here sharing his many talents! Reach out to him and grab a lesson or catch him on the next gig.
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to create experiences of connectedness, learning, and joy through the language of acoustic music.
Our Vision
We envision Salt Lake City as a hub for world class acoustic music. We accomplish this by building a healthy community-oriented ecosystem that’s accessible for all.
Thank you for hanging out with Hot House West! We are an organization devoted to growing and supporting Utah’s swing and acoustic roots music community. We believe that acoustic music—from swing and jazz to bluegrass, old-time, country and western— brings people together and creates opportunities for connectedness, learning, and joy.
Our goal is to provide and promote weekly and monthly events, from dances, to jams, concerts, and workshops, that support and build our acoustic community. If you’ve ever wanted to dust off the ol’ guitar, meet new players, find a dance partner, or even just find more live acoustic music, follow us, spread the word, and join our Hot House West community! We hope to see you soon!
