Welcome to Swing and Strings Weekly # 19

Hello and thank you for patiently awaiting this week's newsletter. We were having too much fun making music to write this last week but we want to make sure you know what's going on this week so you can join us! So let's dive in.

First off, a call to action. If you are or you are friends with a Utah artist who has a vinyl pressing of their music, please reach out to us at nathan@hothousewest.com. We are working with the Millcreek Common to create a a local artist booth for their upcoming Vinyl Revival and we would love to include your music.

May the stoke never die!

Currently the Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Utah, his career spans various roles in education across the United States and involvement in the music scenes of Utah, Europe, and more. Boornazian holds advanced degrees in music and has taught a wide range of subjects from saxophone to music technology. His artistic output includes original compositions, two modern jazz albums, and nearly thirty self-published works. Josiah is a grounding force for the University of Utah's jazz program. We're excited about his stewardship and the effects it will have on the jazz scene in Utah! It was at that very school that Hot House West found its start. It is great to see it flourish with Josiah at the helm!

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to create experiences of connectedness, learning, and joy through the language of acoustic music.

Our Vision

We envision Salt Lake City as a hub for world class acoustic music. We accomplish this by building a healthy community-oriented ecosystem that’s accessible for all.

Thank you for hanging out with Hot House West! We are an organization devoted to growing and supporting Utah’s swing and acoustic roots music community. We believe that acoustic music—from swing and jazz to bluegrass, old-time, country and western— brings people together and creates opportunities for connectedness, learning, and joy.

Our goal is to provide and promote weekly and monthly events, from dances, to jams, concerts, and workshops, that support and build our acoustic community. If you’ve ever wanted to dust off the ol’ guitar, meet new players, find a dance partner, or even just find more live acoustic music, follow us, spread the word, and join our Hot House West community! We hope to see you soon!
