WAR [SINGLE]

Acclaimed fiddle player Megan Nay unveils a new dimension of her artistry with her debut EP, Lonely Hearts. Known for her prowess as a supporting instrumentalist, Megan now steps confidently into the spotlight as a songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist, presenting a body of work that merges heartfelt folk storytelling with the raw emotion of pop-rock and emo influences.

Lonely Hearts represents Megan’s ambitious endeavor to bridge two contrasting yet complementary musical worlds. Rooted in the folk and traditional music of her youth, Megan draws equally from the dynamic energy of emo and alternative rock. The result is a soundscape that is at once nostalgic and contemporary, intimate yet expansive.

Megan cites icons like Nanci Griffith, Ruston Kelly, and Pinegrove as key inspirations for this record. The EP’s title track, “Lonely Hearts,” echoes the timeless allure of Griffith’s Flyer (1993), while other songs channel the genre-blurring ethos of Ruston Kelly’s Dirt Emo Vol. 1. With instrumentation featuring banjo, pedal steel, drums, and the electric bite of a Telecaster, Megan creates a sonic palette that defies the boundaries of traditional folk while retaining its emotional depth.

Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Megan grew up immersed in a vibrant music community that nurtured her love for folk and bluegrass. Picking up the fiddle at age seven, she quickly became a fixture in the local and national bluegrass scenes, performing with bands such as David Burchfield and the Fire Guild, The Lower Lights, and Trash Moon Collective. Now, with Lonely Hearts, Megan ventures into uncharted territory, channeling years of musical experience into her own voice and vision.

The lead single, “War,” slated for release in January 2025, captures the EP’s essence with its poignant lyrics and striking melodies. A music video for the single will also debut, offering a visual narrative to complement the song’s powerful themes. From the heart-wrenching vulnerability of the title track to the dynamic drive of other heartbreak anthems, Lonely Hearts delivers a raw, emotional journey that resonates deeply.

Megan’s debut isn’t just an album; it’s a declaration. It’s the sound of an artist discovering her voice and inviting listeners to join her on the journey. For fans of genre-blending trailblazers and heartfelt songwriting, Lonely Hearts is a must-listen.
