FAQ

  • Hot House West works with a large community of musicians and bands with the goal of creating experiences of connectedness, learning, and joy through the language of acoustic music. From named bands like the 14-piece Hot House West Swing Orchestra and Pompe n’ Honey, to our Swing & Trash Moon Collective communities, we can curate music for just about any event. We cater to events of all sizes and atmospheres and can cover a wide array of acoustic offerings. Everything from swing, jazz, bluegrass, old-time, Irish, Gypsy jazz, western swing, honky-tonk, and roots country falls in our wheelhouse. From duos to big bands, check out our roster page to see the full list of ensembles available for booking.

  • We certainly were for a long time and even have a record out under that name. However, we reorganized on January 1st of 2023 into a nonprofit 501(c)(3) and have greatly expanded our mission and vision since then.

We now book under the name The Hot House West Swing Orchestra (our big band). Or we book smaller groups through our Swing Collective and Trash Moon Collective programs. You’ll often find Swing Collective groups playing classic “Hot House West” repertoire and represented by the original faces of Hot House West.

  • Booking a performance by one of our bands is simple! Just visit our website and fill out the booking request form with your event details, including date, location, type of event, and any specific preferences you have regarding the ensemble.

  • The Swing Collective is a vibrant community of skilled musicians dedicated to swing rhythm. This collective serves as a platform for connecting talented artists with opportunities to perform. The collective makes it so Hot House West isn’t limited by having a band made up of only certain members. This flexibility allows us to assemble lineups tailored to specific gigs and venues, making us available to play a wider range of events, while contributing to a thriving scene and fostering mentorship on the bandstand.

The Swing Collective is deeply committed to nurturing swing music in Salt Lake City and beyond. By bringing together local musicians and building a strong community we aim to thrive as a collective, inspiring audiences and musicians alike to embrace the joy and spirit of swing. We can perform in a wide-array of swing styles. From western swing, Gypsy jazz, bebop, traditional New Orleans jazz, or modern jazz —- If it swings, we’re here for it!

We also work with a number of specific bands that can be found on our Swing Collective page.

  • The Trash Moon Collective is a patchwork community of musicians dedicated to acoustic stringband and fiddle traditions. Bluegrass, old-time, country, honky-tonk, Irish, and swing all find a place under the Trash Moon!

In addition to our community offerings such as workshops, jams, dances, and performances, we are available to book!

We have several specific bands that we work with or we can curate one for you from our incredible community of musicians that congregate under the Trash Moon Collective. We’re growing this community all the time. The moon has gravity!

  • No, all bands and ensembles are under the umbrella of Hot House West nonprofit 501(c)(3). A Swing Collective ensemble would indeed be referred to as "Hot House West Swing Collective" “The Swing Collective Trio” (or a similar variation). The Swing Collective represents a dynamic community of musicians associated with Hot House West, who collaborate to form various ensembles tailored to different events and musical styles. These ensembles, while part of the broader Hot House West brand, offer versatility and customization to meet the unique needs and preferences of our clients.

  • Our experienced booking manager will work closely with you to understand the specific needs and atmosphere of your event and recommend the ensemble that best fits your requirements.

  • Depending on the size and type of ensemble you choose, there may be certain technical requirements or equipment needed for the performance. Our team will provide guidance and coordinate with you to ensure all technical aspects are taken care of. It's essential to note that if Hot House West is expected to provide their own sound needs, an additional fee may apply.

  • The cost of booking a band or ensemble varies depending on factors such as the specific group, the size of the group, duration of the performance, and location of the event. Please contact our booking team for a personalized quote based on your specific requirements.
