CHRIS PETTY
Chris Petty is a drummer, percussionist, and producer based in Salt Lake City, Utah. His passion for music started on the drum-set at age 11 and evolved as he picked up percussion in high school. In 2012, he attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, focusing on jazz drum-set and percussion under the tutelage of Jay Lawrence and Carl Allen and spending the summers drumming in the house band at Lagoon amusement park in Farmington, Utah. Upon graduating from Snow College, he began working extensively with corporate event and wedding band, No Limits, traveling and performing internationally, including destinations like Cancun, Mexico and Guatemala City. In 2015 he was accepted to Berklee College of Music with scholarship, where he studied with a multitude of world-class teachers: drumset with Kenwood Dennard and Mark Walker, tabla and kanjira with Jerry Leake, vibraphone with Ed Saindon, electro-acoustic composition with Dr. Richard Boulanger, and improvisation with Kenny Werner. He graduated from Berklee in 2019, earning a degree in Electronic Production and Design and a minor in Effortless Mastery. He subsequently moved back to Salt Lake City to continue his education at the University of Utah, earning a Masters of Music in Jazz Studies in 2022, focusing on composition, arranging, and music research. He currently lives in Salt Lake City where he works full-time as a freelance drummer, educator, producer, and music engineer, playing with artists like Angie Petty & The Truth, Jake & the Heist, and Alicia Stockman as well as maintaining a busy roster of production and mixing clients. Chris is an adjunct faculty member at Utah Valley University, where he teaches Commercial Music Production lessons. He also offers lessons on drum set, vibraphone, production, and music theory from his home studio or online.
