This is a collection of tunes heard at old-time sessions in and around Salt Lake City, Utah, played mostly on string-band instruments: fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, and bass. (But we don't discriminate... bring your flute!)

  • A collection of 65 fiddle tunes that are commonly played in sessions around Salt Lake City. There are several original Utah tunes, written by members of the Trash Moon Collective.

As we grow the acoustic music scene, having a common language and musical identity is critical in making it easy to sit down and play together.

About the Trash Moon Collective: A Program from Hot House West

We are an organization devoted to growing and supporting Utah’s acoustic music community. We believe that acoustic music—from bluegrass, to old time, and swing—brings people together and creates opportunities for connectedness, learning, and joy.

Our name ‘Trash Moon’, is inspired by a spontaneous desert hang. What began as a small group of friends filming a music video became an impromptu weekend of a larger community sharing food, adventures, and old-time music. Just like the Trash Moon we made out of found objects around the garden, our growing community has become a colorful patchwork of friends, genres, and styles unique to Utah.

We provide and promote weekly and monthly events, from dances, to jams, concerts, and workshops, that support and build our acoustic community. If you’ve ever wanted to dust off the ol’ banjo, meet new pickers, or even just find more live acoustic music, follow us, spread the word, and join our Trash Moon community! Visit us at www.trashmooncollective.com.

Trash Moon Collective is a program of the Hot House West Nonprofit 501(C)(3).
